PRAGUE, Czech Republic, April 20, 2010 - avast! Antivirus 5.0 is available in 27 languages, with the latest program update adding seven new languages.
The new languages make avast! the world’s most multi-lingual free antivirus program. And, the expanded language option is included in all three versions of the new 5.0 – avast! Free Antivirus, avast! Pro Antivirus and avast! Internet Security.
Adding languages is part of the global strategy to make avast! protection available – and fully understandable – in all parts of the world. "People are safer when they can read ‘virus database has been updated’ in their own language," said Ondrej Vlcek, Chief Technology Officer at ALWIL Software, makers of avast! Antivirus. "avast! is already used in 238 countries and territories around the globe, and this geographic spread means a lot more when the program is in people’s own languages."
The new avast! languages are Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Slovenian, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Adding these languages was a community effort that included avast! users, resellers and internal translators. "Most of the translations were done by avast! community members on a completely voluntary basis," added Mr. Vlcek. "It is only through their efforts to translate, proofread and test the language packages that we have been able to achieve this."
The list of available languages is still not complete at 27. More language translations are in progress and will be added later this year.
The seven new language packs are included in the upgraded avast! version 5.0.507, available at avast.com and at other download sites around the globe.
