(PRAGUE, Czech Republic, May 31, 2010) - ALWIL Software, producer of the avast! portfolio of computer security products, has received the Red Herring 100 Award for 2010, joining the ranks of previous winners like Google and eBay. These awards recognize the most innovative companies based on criteria that includes financial performance, technology innovation, and position in their respective industries.
"We are pleased to recieve the Red Herring Top 100 award. It is an important achievement for us and a tribute to the work we’ve put into avast! – we are relatively unknown as a company, but we have more than 100 million users of our antivirus products," said Vince Steckler, CEO of ALWIL Software. "As a Red Herring winner, we are starting to get the corporate recognition that avast! already has with computer users around the globe."
Since 1996, The Red Herring 100 Europe award has highlighted startups from the European business sphere. Red Herring’s lists of top private companies are an important part of the publication’s tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google, eBay, and Skype were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors. Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated several hundred private companies through analysis of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.
"This year was especially difficult," said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. "The makers of avast! stood out among the competition for their exceptional accomplishments and business model."
