PRAGUE, Czech Republic, March 15, 2012 — To celebrate the launch of avast! version 7, AVAST Software will put an avast! user and a friend in seventh heaven. The lucky person that guesses the number of avast! users - and registers this on the avast! Facebook page – will win an all-inclusive seven-day vacation for two.
“AVAST is about freedom and user choice, so our winner can pick their own heaven on earth,” said Vince Steckler, CEO of AVAST Software.
The new avast! version 7 is the first free antivirus to have streaming updates, giving users the most recent updates on new threats as they appear. And, it includes an array of other friendly features such as Remote Assistance and the avast! Account to make your life – and your friends’ lives - easier and more secure.
“These features make avast! even more attractive to users, but we just don’t know how many additional new users we will gain,” added Mr. Steckler. “Instead of paying a consultant to estimate what our active user base growth could be by end April, we thought it would be more fun to ask our users.”
The grand winner is the person that most closely guesses the number of active avast! users as of April 30. The winner will receive seven days of near paradise: an all-inclusive vacation that includes round-trip airfare for two, seven days in a luxury hotel, and pocket money. It’s not a one winner take all contest, either. The next 77 people that come close – but not quite close enough – with their estimates will receive free licenses to the premium avast! Internet Security.
For the purposes of this contest, an “active avast! user” is a PC computer with any avast! product installed which has received at least one virus database update in the previous 30 days. This figure does not include the users of avast! Free Mobile Security for Android smartphones.
The contest rules are simple. Guess how many active avast! users there will be as of April 30, 2012 at 12:00 CET. Register this number on the avast! Facebook page along with contact details. The contest closes on April 3, 2012, at 12:00 CET. Details are posted on the avast! Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/avast?sk=app_125256630919882.
1. On 8 April 2014, Microsoft stops support for Internet Explorer browsers running on Windows XP. This will put your computer and data, such as credit card and online banking details, at greater risk to hackers and malware.
2. Several browser alternatives exist, but we at AVAST use and recommend Chrome, as we find it to be the most-secure option available.
