PRAGUE, Czech Republic, August 29, 2012 – AVAST Software’s security and Anti-Theft app for Android, avast! Free Mobile Security, surpassed 10 million installations at the end of July 2012. With 4.7 out of 5 stars, it is also the highest ranked security solution in the Google Play store.
“Our recipe for success was simple,” said Ondrej Vlcek, CTO of AVAST Software. “We took the best Anti-Theft/anti-loss technology available, added a full-featured anti-virus, and launched the app for free, just before Christmas. Even though Android malware is a growing problem, we knew the Anti-Theft component would see major demand, as it makes ‘lost’ phones a thing of the past.”
When introduced, avast! Anti-Theft technology was the first to offer stealth technology that prevents thieves disabling the protection of the stolen phone. It was also the first to introduce special protection features designed for rooted phones, making any unauthorized removal of the Anti-Theft protection virtually impossible – even by resetting it back to factory settings.
“Our goal is to reach 20 million installations by the end of 2012,” continued Vlcek, “so we’ll continue to introduce more useful and unique features.” The new version 2.0, launched late August, includes SiteCorrect technology, designed to auto-correct mistyped URLs and protect users from typo-squatting sites. Moreover, it is also the first security app to include a Network Meter, thus preventing any malware or grey-zone application from running high data transfers without the user’s knowledge.
1. On 8 April 2014, Microsoft stops support for Internet Explorer browsers running on Windows XP. This will put your computer and data, such as credit card and online banking details, at greater risk to hackers and malware.
2. Several browser alternatives exist, but we at AVAST use and recommend Chrome, as we find it to be the most-secure option available.
